Introducing Shaun Stone General Manager for People & Culture

About Me

As General Manager – People & Culture at BIC Services, I am focused on human resources and my role incorporates responsibilities across employee/industrial relations, training & capability development, safety & wellbeing, employee engagement and the implementation of operational and strategic HR initiatives, ensuring alignment with broader business objectives.

My role is to ensure that we invest our people and remain an employer of choice through our industry leading workplace culture and employee engagement initiatives.

How long have you been working at BIC for?

I have been working at BIC for 8 years.

How long have you been in the industry?

I have also been in the industry for 8 years.

What does your day look like?

With no two days being the same, my day is focused on the higher priority projects or tasks that require attention on that particular day.

I believe a collaborative approach results in optimal outcomes and with this in mind, outside of these higher priority projects and tasks, my day consists of both meetings and communication with the focus on both short term and long-term business objectives and a collaborative approach across various stakeholders within our organisation.

A significant portion of my day is also spent communicating with our Operations teams and our employees, identifying support, training and development needs, or providing advice to ensure that we continue to remain compliant with all aspects of Employee/Industrial relations including laws and regulations.

In between the above, I will work on longer-term projects and prepare documentation where and as required.

What is the most important part of your role?

The most important part of my role is ensuring that we have a positive impact as an employer – we cannot have a positive impact without knowing our people and investing in them for the future.

Our objective is to ensure that we take our employees with us as we develop and grow as an organisation and provide our people the opportunities for both personal and career development.

What do you love most about working for BIC?

I love working for BIC as we are an industry leader with a transparent approach, ensuring that we place our people at the forefront of everything that we do.

I also love the dynamic nature of working for BIC, no two days are the same and the opportunities for personal and career growth are endless.

I take inspiration from those that I work alongside each and every day and the close bond that we have formed at BIC.

What skills and tools do you need to work in the cleaning industry?

The cleaning industry, similar to many service industries, requires an ability to be dynamic and work collaboratively to achieve approach challenges and achieve desired outcomes.

Each day is different and comes with a different set of challenges – a positive attitude, having critical thinking skills and the ability to communicate with various stakeholders across all levels of the organisation is important. Above all else, being resilient is key.
