Introducing Maree Shelley, our Sustainability Officer based in New South Wales.

About Me

I am the Sustainability officer for BIC and my role is a strong waste management focus. As role includes supporting executives with waste management issues, staff training, waste weighing and sorting and reporting.

How long have you been working at BIC for?

Have been working for BIC for nearly six months.

How long have you been in the industry?

Have ten years’ experience in the waste management and new to the cleaning service industry.

What does your day look like?

My day can vary greatly from site meetings and inspections, presentation in client meetings, to waste weighing training in bin rooms at night.

What is the most important part of your role?

Assisting our client work towards circular economy by improving recycling and reducing waste to landfill.

What do you love most about working for BIC?

Variation every day is different.

What skills and tools do you need to work in the cleaning industry?

You need to be a people person and have great problem-solving skills.

Best advice you can give on working in the industry.

The people who work in this industry care for the environment and always going out of their way to help.  No question or task is never too hard.  This attitude is essential for environmental change.
