Introducing Carla Gamez, our Executive Manager based in Perth.

We asked Carla to spare 5 minutes of her time to answer some questions.

How long have you been working at BIC for?

I started working at BIC from January this year, it’s only been a short time but I feel I have hit the ground running. It’s a great and fast paced environment.

How long have you been in the industry?

I have been working in the cleaning industry for 5 years, I started as a Night Supervisor then moved to Site Manager and my role now is Executive Manager at BIC. As I have worked in different roles I have learnt great skills as I know the various facets it takes to not only clean a building but also how to make sure that the delivery is consistent and on point every day. Cleaning is an essential service and we work in the background to make sure the building and tenants are happy and that the building is ready everyday for business. It’s hard work but I love it and I love the people I work with.

What does your day look like?

Everyday brings new challenges and opportunities which helps me to be better at my job as well as in life. Whilst I have been at BIC for a short time only, my day is full and busy with varied tasks and client requests. A big part of my day is ensuring my Team have what they need to deliver a great service. It’s important to be organised and keep on top of everything as some days are fast paced and very full which I love.

What is the most important part of your role?

I am the link between our clients, tenants, operators and the BIC management office. I make sure everything gets done, and that my team have what they need to do their job. We all work as a team and it’s important to me that we work together like clockwork as it means we are looking after and prioritising our clients and tenants requirements.

What do you love most about working for BIC?

I like the team spirit at BIC – we work hard together but there is also an underlying feeling of team-ship. There are many opportunities for growth and career advancement at BIC which I am very excited about.

What skills and tools do you need to work in the cleaning industry?

Team work, commitment and the ability to adapt oneself to the changing needs of the tenants and buildings. I started years 5 ago in this industry and there have been many changes in this time. You have to stay current and know the environment you work in.

Best advice you can give on working in the industry?

Never give-up, opportunities come to those who are committed and work hard. As part of the business I ran in Mexico I learnt that being flexible, knowing your job and thinking ahead is key to being successful in whatever role you are in or aspire to be in.
