BIC Services has undertaken a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) to help increase awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and culture within our business. The RAP provides a foundation for our business to make a strong contribution and commit towards furthering reconciliation within our community. BIC are acutely conscious that our core business has an excellent opportunity to enhance Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ outcomes through involvement in our daily activity.

Our RAP has been developed through a series of internal leadership meetings, supplier interaction and dialogue with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

National Reconciliation Week is 27 May to 3 June, these dates commemorate two significant events in the reconciliation journey – the 1967 referendum and the high Court Mabo Decision respectively. For Australians, this is a great opportunity for us to acknowledge the valuable contribution of our indigenous community and also to show our commitment to supporting the community via meaningful employment and opportunities.

This year’s theme is Grounded in Truth, Walk Together in Courage. In understanding each other’s stories, we will all grow. By walking together in courage, we can all learn and understand each other. Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australian as we move forward, creating a nation of respect of our indigenous communities.

The Tree of Truth was bought to life by Gilimbaa, with narration by Jeremy Marou of Busby Marou.
